LGBT theater has a dark, and abysmal begging with the portrayal of Gays and lesbian being more of a way to make fun of them, or portray them in ways that are not true to life. The sexual revolution brought about more portrayals of Gay and lesbian theater off-Broadway through plays like Caffe Cino. Many plays about the Gay community such as Torch Song Trilogy, and The Ritz started off Broadway and transferred in quite well. Some of the first plays to portray homosexuals in a normalized way were plays like, Kennedy's Children, The Fifth of July and Burn This. The Gay theater alliance grew from many companies such as the Stonewall Theatre, and many others. The AIDS eoidemic has prompted many plays that concern the lives of those living with the issue, plays like RENT, or the normal heart. LGBT theater is loud and proud so to speak and doesn't seem likely to stop.
